K-Pop Idol Exposes How The Industry Led Her To Low Self-Esteem

On the 19th, the SBS show Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 – You Are My Destiny featured a well-known couple consisting of a girl group K-Pop idol and a million-subscriber YouTuber.

On the show, famous disabled YouTuber Park We recalled the time of his accident: “I was completely paralyzed. It wasn’t just that I couldn’t move my body, but I lost all sensation. Even when I tried to exert strength, it felt like no power was coming through. My cervical vertebra was completely fractured, and the spinal nerves were damaged. I was told I would be paralyzed for life and wouldn’t even be able to move my fingers.”

Park We said, “I think I exercised to survive. Of course, there are still things I can’t do now, but with help, it’s not a big problem,” expressing gratitude for his current life.

Regarding his wife Song Jieun, who was a member of K-Pop girl group SECRET, Park WE said, “I’m grateful just that she loves me, but deciding to live with me forever is a gift I cannot fully comprehend.” Song Ji Eun shed tears and said, “It’s touching.” She added, “Hearing that I’m a precious person to someone overwhelms me with emotion.”

Song Ji Eun recalled her time in the entertainment industry from a young age: “I had to constantly prove myself and keep climbing higher, or I’d be left behind. My career impacted many people’s jobs. I lived without making true-to-myself choices and my self-esteem dropped.”

She continued, “Many people said, ‘Jieun smiles a lot, but why do her eyes look so sad?’ After meeting my husband, I think I understand why. I had to make choices that were truly me for my life to gain strength, but I was struggling because I wasn’t being myself. (After dating and marrying) my self-esteem has risen a lot.”
