Netflix’s Wednesday season 2 has been making headlines after a surprising scene where Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday dances to BLACKPINK’s hit track “Boombayah.”

While the cameo delighted K-Pop fans worldwide, a recent interview with co-star Emma Myers has unexpectedly sparked backlash from some BLACKPINK fans.

Emma, who plays Enid Sinclair in the series, sat down with MTV UK to discuss the new season. During the conversation, the interviewer brought up the viral BLACKPINK moment, leading to Emma’s reaction that has since gone viral itself.

When asked about the scene, Emma admitted she had forgotten the song was used, quickly clarifying that she wasn’t involved in selecting the track and that she did not “recommend it.”
Interviewer: I’ve seen BLACKPINK’s “BOOMBAYAH” all over my page..
Emma: Oh goodness, yeah, I forgot they were doing that song.
Interviewer: I was gonna say, were you on set that day watching Jenna, and did you recommend the song?
Emma: I did not recommend the song. I’ve had a lot of people ask me ‘Oh you must have had the K-Pop influence‘ I have no say in what happens in the editing room at all. But I thought… that’s a great dance song for Enid.

She further explained that although her character Enid is written as a K-Pop fan, she didn’t choreograph the dance for Jenna. Instead, Emma shared that she sent Ortega a collection of videos that reflected how Enid might dance, allowing Jenna to interpret it in her own way.
I was not on set to see Jenna do that but I actually, I hadn’t choreographed it but I did send her a bunch of videos of how Enid would dance and I think she pulled what she wanted. So I let her do her thing.

Despite the neutral explanation, some BLACKPINK fans were left unimpressed with Emma’s tone during the interview. The video shared by MTV on X (formerly Twitter) has sparked a lot of heated reactions, with many accusing the Wednesday star of not liking BLACKPINK.
Others even claimed she favors boy groups.

On the other hand, many have defended Emma, suggesting that her response was misunderstood and that she simply sounded weary of being repeatedly asked about K-Pop.
"she hates blackpink", "average boy group stan" she just tired of being asked about the kpop stuffs😭 https://t.co/93YxCro0j0

Yes! She likes K-pop but isn't a Blink. Emma is a queen and never says anything disrespectful. Don't shady, don't be toxic and vote for Blackpink. https://t.co/Smu0u4ubxh
