Song Review: Yugyeom (GOT7) – Shall We Dance

3 hours ago 6

It’s been awhile since I last wrote about a solo GOT7 song. Many have passed me by without much fanfare and I simply let them fall by the wayside. However, Yugyeom has some decent solo work to his name and any song whose title beckons me to dance is sure to get my attention (at least initially). Plus, this is his last title track before his military enlistment.

In Shall We Dance‘s case, the “dance” in question is a gentle sway. The song is quite muted, offering a laidback groove perfect for summer drives at low speed levels. This might be a weird comparison, but from vibe to melody the track reminds me of something K-band CNBlue might have concocted years ago. It’s gentle, pleasant and threatens to fade into the backdrop at every turn. If that’s what you’re looking for in a K-pop song, you could certainly do worse than this. Yugyeom has an amiable vocal that adds just enough texture to stand out and even hits a few power notes, but overall Shall We Dance‘s ambition is quite low. Rather than close out this era of his career with a bang, he’s chosen to end it with a soft sashay.
