Earlier this year, NCT WISH released their latest album, poppop, which features a title track of the same name.

Many were excited for the group’s return, as member Riku would be active for promotions after taking a hiatus. The excitement for his return was so great that a viral moment involving the idol took off across the internet.

During the livestream, while the track “1000” was playing, Riku rapped his part while dancing, shaking his shoulders.

The video clip has gone viral on multiple platforms as it has become a challenge amongst K-Pop fans. The “1000 Shake” has also gone beyond the limits of the K-Pop fandom, with many “locals” participating as well.

The move going viral has unfortunately taken a disgusting turn.

The comments of some TikTok videos showing someone doing the “1000 Shake” have been overtaken by users sexualizing the trend. Commenters have “thanked” Riku for making the trend, among more vulgar comments.

Fans have shared their discontent with the trend going viral in this manner, mentioning that many doing the dance are underage.

While Riku going viral certainly is a good thing, fans understandably wish to be able to participate without it getting sexualized.
