Joo Haknyeon, a long-standing member of the K-pop group The Boyz, has officially stepped away from the team and terminated his exclusive contract with the agency One Hundred, citing personal matters that have recently come to light.

On June 18, One Hundred released a formal statement addressing the issue. “After being informed of a recent personal incident involving Joo Hak-nyeon, we immediately suspended his activities and began a thorough verification of the facts,” the agency stated. “Following a detailed internal review, we concluded that the matter is serious and that it would be difficult to maintain the trust required of an artist under our management.”

The agency further explained that the decision was not made unilaterally. “We engaged in ample discussion with the members of The Boyz, and after careful consideration, it was agreed that Joo Haknyeon would withdraw from the group and terminate his contract with us.

They also expressed regret and understanding toward the fans, saying, “We sincerely apologize for the concern this situation has caused. One Hundred will continue to support the remaining members of The Boyz, enabling them to carry on their activities with strength and stability. We promise to return with better news moving forward.”

The controversy stems from allegations that surfaced earlier this month, claiming Joo Hak-nyeon had a private meeting with a former adult video (AV) actress—now an influencer—at a bar in Tokyo, Japan, in late May. Although the agency did not directly confirm the specifics of the incident, their response implies it significantly influenced their decision.

Joo Haknyeon first captured public attention in 2017 through his appearance on Mnet’s popular idol survival show Produce 101 Season 2, where he finished in 19th place. Later that year, he debuted as a member of The Boyz, quickly earning popularity for his visuals, stage presence, and vibrant personality. The group has since grown into one of the leading names in fourth-generation K-pop, with a steady stream of successful albums and international tours.

As recently as March 2025, Joo participated in the release of The Boyz’s third full-length album, Unexpected, making his sudden withdrawal all the more shocking to fans. On June 16, he abruptly halted all team activities, with the initial explanation being “personal reasons.” Just two days later, the full extent of the situation became apparent.

The news has left fans divided—some expressing disappointment, while others send messages of concern and support. As the group regroups and moves forward, all eyes will be on how The Boyz navigates their next chapter without one of its founding members.
