Entering DAESUNG's Universe: A Concert in Malaysia That Proved He’s a Born Performer

4 hours ago 5

It’s not every day that you get to witness a night filled with powerhouse vocals, unexpected comedic flair, and a whole lot of yellow lights beaming in sync. But on Hari Haji, fans at Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands, got to experience just that – a night to remember with DAESUNG, as he brought his “D’s WAVE” 2025 Asia Tour to Malaysian shores for the very first time as a soloist. While BIGBANG has graced Malaysian stages multiple times in the past, this marks DAESUNG’s first solo visit – and what a debut it was.

7 June 2025 - The concert opened with “Universe”, a soaring anthem from his first Korean-language mini album, [D’s Wave] – a release that carries deep significance for DAESUNG, coming 19 years after his debut. The mini album took centre stage, as he performed all six tracks: Last Girl, Jump, Umbrella, Wolf, Fly Away Us Before, and of course, the title track itself. Each performance was met with roaring applause, as fans soaked in the raw emotion and vocal excellence DAESUNG has become known for.

Shifting gears into a more sentimental segment, DAESUNG captivated the audience with his renditions of Falling Slowly, Lights, and Flow – transforming the grand concert hall into an intimate space filled with heartfelt emotion. His voice, delicate yet powerful, moved fans to sway in unison, many visibly emotional as he poured his heart into each note.

The night continued with a surprise transformation as DAESUNG brought out his alter ego D-LITE, his stage persona from Japan. The crowd erupted as he performed his Japanese hits Rainy Rainy, Dress and Utautai no Ballad, bringing a touch of his Japanese career to Malaysia for the first time.

Then came one of the most anticipated moments – a nostalgic BIGBANG medley. The energy soared as DAESUNG belted out iconic hits like Monster, Stupid Liar, Oh My Friend, Fantastic Baby, Bang Bang Bang, and We Like 2 Party. Despite being the only member on stage, DAESUNG carried the torch brilliantly – dancing, jumping, and hyping the crowd with unstoppable energy.

It’s hard to believe he’s an I-type (Introvert) according to his MBTI – because on stage, he radiates nothing but pure E (Extrovert) vibes. A true stage-born performer, he filled every corner of Arena of Stars with his magnetic presence.

In true DAESUNG fashion, the breaks between performances turned into a full-blown comedy show. Fans couldn’t stop laughing as he joked around, poked fun at himself, and re-created the lighthearted energy fans have grown to love on his YouTube channel, Zip Daesung.

He attempted to speak English throughout the night – only to hilariously realize towards the end that he had a translator on standby all along. “Oops!” he said with a laugh, “I was struggling to speak!”

But that wasn’t all – DAESUNG surprised fans by speaking in Bahasa Malaysia (BM) too! He checked in with a friendly “Dah makan?”, praised the crowd with “Memang mantap!”, and repeatedly thanked fans with the most natural-sounding “Terima kasih.” Before leaving the stage, he melted hearts with a sincere “Sayang korang” – a sweet Malaysian way of saying “Love you all.”

DAESUNG wrapped up the night with a high-energy encore of his trot classic, “Look at Me, Gwisun” – a track that turned the venue into a full-blown party. Fans jumped, danced, and cheered with joy, not wanting the night to end.

If you’ve attended concerts at Arena of Stars, you might know the venue isn’t typically known for its high energy. But not this time. Fans came prepared. Upon entry, each attendee received a yellow light wristband, turning the entire hall into a glowing sea of yellow – the color that represents DAESUNG. It was a beautiful tribute, coordinated by fans who wanted to make his solo debut in Malaysia extra special.

The crowd – made up of VIPs from across the country – came ready to sing, dance, and show their unwavering support. Their energy matched DAESUNG’s from start to finish, with loud chants, enthusiastic cheers, and heartwarming fan projects that made the night unforgettable.

DAESUNG proved once again why he’s a 2nd-gen K-pop legend. He didn’t just perform – he connected, he entertained, and he reminded everyone what live music is all about. For those who worried about the vibe or energy of the venue, the night proved otherwise. It was a celebration of music, laughter, and love – between an artist and his fans. Here’s hoping this isn’t the last time we see DAESUNG in Malaysia – whether solo or with BIGBANG. Until then, we’ll be waving our yellow lights, waiting for the next wave to hit.

Terima kasih, DAESUNG. Sayang you too. ❤️
