“This makes it sound like the issue is not that they’re racist, but…”

Cropping out BLACKPINK‘s Rosé was not intended to offend anyone, ELLE UK said. But are K-Pop fans buying this 24-hour apology?

Not at all.

Earlier, the magazine’s official Instagram account faced international backlash after posting a photo from the Yves Saint Laurent show at Paris Fashion Week that excluded the K-Pop star.

Popular Media Outlet Accused Of Racism Towards BLACKPINK’s Rosé

As fans from all over the world demanded better from ELLE UK, the account has since removed the controversial post and swapped it with a solo feature of Rosé.

ELLE UK also issued an official apology, though via Stories, claiming that the cropping was “for size.” The magazine swore that the post was not meant to offend anyone, promising to “represent the full spectrum of [their] audience” going forward.

As expected, all of the abovementioned actions are only adding fuel to the fire. Dubbed “half-a*sed” and “still racist,” the apology is not being well received by K-Pop fans, both in Korea and around the world.

  • “Saying that they ‘didn’t mean to offend anyone’ is such BS… Seriously, the intention was crystal clear.”
  • “This half-a*sed apology feels even more offensive. F*ck you, ELLE.”
  • “Whoa… That last part got me f*cked up? It reads like, ‘We’re sorry we didn’t post the Asian you wanted to see,’ and not ‘We’re sorry for being racist.’ LMAO. What the hell?”
  • “Bullsh*t.”
  • “So shady…”

In particular, the part about ELLE UK being committed to ensuring all future coverage representing the “full spectrum of [their] audience” is completely setting off Koreans:

  • “Um… I’m taken aback by this apology because it is dismissing the people who raised issues as overly dramatic marginal voices falling outside the ‘spectrum of their audience.'”
  • “These pathetic people… So shady. Such racists.”
  • “Shady a*s.”
  • “I f*cking hate this. I’ve always liked Rosé, but I support her even more now. BLACKPINK’s international fans are so solid.”
  • “Honestly, it’s probably only because Rosé is popular that they even apologized—like, otherwise do we really think they would’ve done anything?”
  • “For sure this makes it sound like the issue is not that they’re racist, but that a group of minorities is being overly dramatic.”
  • “Thank goodness Rosé is world-class. Otherwise, they wouldn’t even care whether she faced racism. Honestly, Westerners have zero basis to feel superior… I just don’t get it.”
  • “Disgusting.”
  • “What a creepy nation.”
  • “These racists are too dumb to even hide it.”
  • “Even their apology is racist.”

The comments section of the “new” Rosé post remains unforgiving.

Will ELLE UK be able to figure out what went wrong this time? Stay tuned.
