BTS’s Jungkook recently came under fire for wearing a controversial hat during a rehearsal for J-Hope’s concert in Seoul.

On June 13, the youngest BTS member joined J-Hope on stage as a special guest and performed his solo hit “Seven.”

However, ahead of the show, Jungkook was seen wearing a black cap with the phrase “Make Tokyo Great Again” printed on the front. The design, which appears to spoof the well-known “Make America Great Again” slogan used by U.S. President Donald Trump and his supporters, drew immediate attention.
Given the sensitive historical context between South Korea and Japan, many fans and netizens expressed discomfort and disappointment. Some perceived the phrase as being politically charged and culturally insensitive.

Hours later, the brand behind the hat also issued a public statement addressing the controversy. In their message, they apologized to anyone who may have felt uncomfortable and clarified the meaning behind the design.
We sincerely apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable.
That said, we believe in the freedom to express ideas through fashion.
This design was not intended to convey any political stance, rather it was an iconic way to express our hopes for a thriving Tokyo fashion scene.

Following the statement, many fans expressed relief that the design had no political intentions and appreciated both Jungkook and the brand for acknowledging the concerns and responding quickly.
