Youn Yuh Jung Scores Emmy Nomination as 'Beef' Season 2 Lands 16 Nods

Veteran South Korean actress Youn Yuh Jung has earned a nomination at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards for her performance in Netflix's Beef Season 2, adding another major milestone to her celebrated career.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) announced this year's nominees on July 9 (KST), with "Beef" Season 2 collecting a total of 16 nominations across multiple categories, AllKPop reported.

Youn received a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her role as Chairman Park, a Korean billionaire and owner of a country club. She will compete against several well-known actresses, including Dakota Fanning, Joy Sunday, Constance Zimmer, and Linda Cardellini.

The recognition places Youn one step closer to another historic achievement. In 2021, she became the first Korean performer to win an Academy Award after taking home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Minari."

If she wins the Emmy, she would become the first Korean actor to hold both an Oscar and an Emmy. "Beef" Season 2 also enjoyed a strong showing in this year's Emmy race.

'Beef' Season 2 Leads Strong Emmy Run

According to The Chosun, along with its nomination for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, the Netflix drama earned nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor for Oscar Isaac, Outstanding Lead Actress for Carey Mulligan, Outstanding Supporting Actor for Charles Melton, as well as recognition for casting, directing, editing, costume design, and other creative categories.

Youn's performance has been praised for portraying a powerful Korean businesswoman whose authority and confidence leave a lasting impression throughout the series.

As Chairman Park, she plays a wealthy entrepreneur who owns a prestigious country club and commands respect from those around her, making the role one of the standout performances of the season.

The Emmy recognition continues the success of the "Beef" franchise. Its first season became one of the biggest winners at the previous Primetime Emmy Awards, taking home eight trophies, including Outstanding Lead Actor for Korean American actor Steven Yeun and several major series awards.

Korean stars have made steady progress at the ceremony in recent years, with Squid Game director Hwang Dong Hyuk and actor Lee Jung Jae among the previous winners. Youn's latest nomination adds another proud moment for Korean entertainment on the global stage.

The winners of the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced during the ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 14.
