Is a second season of K-Drama True Beauty on the way? Let’s fact-check.

Rom-com True Beauty aired from December 9, 2020, to February 4, 2021. It starred Moon Ga Young, ASTRO‘s Cha Eunwoo (also romanized as Cha Eun Woo), and Hwang In Youp as Jukyung, Suho, and Seojun, respectively.

As it was released during the height of the COVID pandemic, it provided an escape for many viewers. It was adapted from the Naver Webtoon of the same name by Yaongyi. At the time, the Webtoon was far from complete, so some fans were curious about how the K-Drama could adapt and give a conclusion when its source material was unfinished.

Yet, the K-Drama True Beauty paid respects to the original while giving fresh content and a wholesome ending. Still, some fans, especially those who read the Webtoon, were left wanting more.

Two years after the conclusion of the K-Drama, rumors circulated that Season 2 of True Beauty was “confirmed”. A video posted on TikTok by @kdrama_flex went viral with hundreds of thousands of views.

Fans of the K-Drama were naturally excited to hear that the K-Drama would return for a second season. Especially since the Webtoon recently concluded, it appeared to be perfect timing.

But how true were these rumors?

The original TikTok used a screenshot of the three-week-old video from Kdrama Flex’s YouTube account. While it claimed to be a trailer for Season 2 of True Beauty, it actually only summarized Season 1. Additionally, the narrator alleged that a second season was on its way but gave no release date. However, the description said December 2023, which clearly was false.

Various sources reported differently. Some claimed that production for Season 2 began in 2021, shortly after Season 1 concluded. Other reports suggested that a second season is possible since the Webtoon finished in June 2023, but there was little credible information. Most importantly, there was zero confirmation from official sources or those who previously worked on the K-Drama.

The production of ‘True Beauty’ season 2 began in April 2021. The series is produced by Studio Dragon and Bon Factory, and directed by Kim Sang-hyub. The filming is expected to take place in various locations in South Korea.

Since the webtoon is already complete, many are anticipating whether the sequel for the drama is also in the works.

However, Yaongyi is yet to confirm if ‘True Beauty’ Season 2 is ready for production, if the original cast will reprise their roles, and who are the new characters to be introduced in the possible second installment of the famous K-drama.

If ‘True Beauty’ gets picked up for a second season, it would likely premiere in 2023.

True Beauty fans are still anticipating Season 2 so much that baseless rumors continually circulate. Some even share edits or clips from the actors’ other works, suggesting it’s True Beauty 2.

But in February 2025, a second season of True Beauty was confirmed. It just wasn’t the same True Beauty that many were expecting.

An animated version of True Beauty aired between August 2024 to October 2024, and the production team behind the animation confirmed a second season of their version will be coming, but with no released date announced.

While this isn’t the same version of True Beauty that fans had hoped for, maybe they can use the animation’s second season as a way to bridge the gap as they continue to hold out hope for a live-action version.
