The Idol Girl Group That Disbanded Because Its Members Were “Too Old”

Their “advancing ages” ended their idol careers.

Would you still buy tickets to see your favorite idol groups perform in their thirties? Forties? How about their nineties? Although many fans would happily support their idols forever, some idols reach a point where they no longer want to be idols.

For one Japanese girl group, Setsuna Meteor, their idol careers needed to come to an end.

The news came not long after the four-member group, which mostly performed in Japan’s Hokkaido Prefecture, celebrated their fifth anniversary with fans.

In a statement on X (formerly known as Twitter), Setsuna Meteor announced that the group would disband on November 24, 2024.

Setsuna Meteor stated that they will be dissolving due to the “members’ advancing age and noticeable decline in physical strength.”

Setsuna Meteor’s members aren’t old by any means, but as J-Pop and K-Pop fans know, being an idol takes physical strength and endurance. It can put serious stress on even the healthiest performer’s body, and that stress tends to increase with age.

Setsuna Meteor’s Marin is 24, Rurune Percent and Yua Nikaido are 33, and Mona Hatori is 28, making the group’s average age 29.5.
