Song Review: Chungha – México

Chungha hasn’t actively promoted a new single since early 2025. Those hoping for a new album after this long hiatus will have to wait because she’s back with a digital single instead. Chungha famously spent eight years living in Texas, and México takes us on a trip to the country just south of that. You would be forgiven for thinking México might be some sort of tourist theme track for the country. The language-blending song sidesteps K-pop entirely, performed in both English and Spanish. This isn’t too surprising given K-pop’s massive popularity in both Central and South America, but it does make the song difficult to compare within the context of the industry. I can’t say I listen to much music from Mexico, so I’m not sure if this sound is indicative of what music is coming out of that country right now. To me, it still feels like a very safe K-pop interpretation of Latin music. To be honest, I’m trying to think of something interesting to say about this song but coming up short. It’s perfectly nice and Chungha sounds in fine form, but the whole thing just leaves me with nothing.
