With the election season in Korea, it can be a sensitive time to post anything that could cause controversy.
In particular, K-Pop idols and celebrities receive much more backlash and criticism with every post and move.
Most recently, TV personality and comedian Hong Jin Kyung received grueling backlash after posting photos online.

As the controversy escalated, she ultimately deleted the photos and posted a handwritten apology online.

“Hello, this is Hong Jin Kyung. I am on an overseas work trip and couldn’t check online due to the time difference. I apologize for being late in writing the apology letter.
I woke up to many missed calls this morning. I used to feel bad when I saw other celebrities posting things that could cause misunderstanding during election season…and I cannot believe that I have become one of them by doing something like this during such a sensitive time…
The photos I posted were taken two days ago when I visited a store in Stockholm. I posted them thinking the design was fun, but I wasn’t able to think about the color of my top.
I think I lost my sense of tension while away from Korea for a long time. Aside from all reasons, this was absolutely my fault. I have nothing to say, and this is genuinely my mistake. I apologize again for causing concern to everyone during such a sensitive time.”
While most criticized her for her actions, others left messages of support.

- “An apology for this? Why does she have to apologize?”
- “Don’t apologize..you did nothing wrong.”
- “So it’s ok for Lee Seung Hwan and not for Hong Jin Kyung?”
- “I don’t think this is something to apologize for. Hong Jin Kyung hwaiting!”
Meanwhile, idols have also been garnering much attention during this election season.
