Former S.E.S. member Shoo has revealed that she and her husband have been living separately for the past four years.
On the July 4 broadcast of MBN’s Dongchimi, the first-generation K-pop star candidly opened up about why she chose separation over divorce.
“It’s been four years since we’ve been living separately.”
She explained that the arrangement initially began due to practical family reasons. According to Shoo, the family’s home no longer had enough space as their children grew older. Her eldest son needed his own room after entering middle school, while her twin daughters also required separate space. On top of that, the family had begun raising three parrots, creating an additional need for another room.

The opportunity arose when her husband mentioned he would be relocating temporarily.
“I thought, ‘This is my chance,’ and immediately called a moving company.”
She revealed that she converted her husband’s former room into their son’s bedroom. Despite no longer living together, Shoo emphasized that their relationship remains positive.
Her husband, former basketball player Im Hyo Sung, now lives nearby and regularly spends time with the family.
“He has his own place nearby and comes over on weekends. We’re actually more comfortable this way.”
She shared that they still gather for family barbecues and even travel together. Shoo admitted that constantly living under the same roof had become difficult. She explained that her husband tended to nag frequently, causing frustrations to build over time.

Interestingly, Shoo revealed that living separately has actually improved their relationship.
Shoo married former basketball player Im Hyo Sung in 2010, and the couple have one son and twin daughters together. While the pair have chosen to live separately rather than divorce, Shoo says the arrangement has ultimately brought more peace to both their marriage and family life.
