Back in 2000, Park Jin Young (J.Y. Park) of JYP Entertainment saw a small dance team called “Little Boys” on television. He reached out to the twins, Ryanghyun and Ryangha, and kick-started their careers in the Korean entertainment business. After debuting the 12-year-old twins as a duo, “Ryanghyun Ryangha,” Park Jin Young saw tremendous success and founded the JYP Entertainment empire as we know it today.

As JYP Entertainment’s unofficial “first” artists, Ryanghyun Ryangha became a national sensation. At the peak of their fame, the twins were earning advertising fees in the hundreds of millions of won. So, what happened to this “OG” boy group from the K-Pop powerhouse?

In an interview with a YouTube channel called Geunhwang Olympic, Ryangha revealed some shocking details about the huge earnings he made as a child. According to the former idol, Park Jin Young offered the twins a contract considered “groundbreaking” at the time.

Park Jin Young told us, ‘Since the company is new and you’re rookies, let’s do a 50-50 split of all earnings.’ At the time, such terms were groundbreaking.

While the twins made a lot of money with those favorable terms, Ryangha had to start working part-time jobs to keep himself afloat. He recalled, “When I stopped being popular and worked part-time jobs, people would say, ‘Why don’t you just live off the money you made?’ But I always answered, ‘That’s my dad’s money.'”

And, when Ryanghyun and Ryangha’s father passed away in 2015, the twins had no way of retrieving the money.

Whenever we made money, my dad would immediately withdraw it in cash. He never squandered it recklessly, but to this day, I don’t know where that money went. He must have kept it somewhere, but since he suddenly passed away in his sleep, I have no way of finding out.

— Ryangha

After their father passed away and the twins completed military service, Ryangha has been attempting different businesses. Aftera a barbecue restaurant and a wedding-related business, he now successfully runs a marketing company!
