Amid the movie KPop Demon Hunters continuing to top Netflix, IVE member Yujin shared a video of her covering one of its beloved soundtracks, “Golden.” While the video was a pleasant surprise for many of her fans, it has also received blistering comments online.

Yujin does a breathtaking job singing “Golden,” which is notoriously high-pitched and now known as a challenging song.
IVE’s official YouTube channel saw a flood of positive comments praising the idol for the cover…

- “Between two Lollapalooza shows and a comeback in Japan, plus a schedule in the U.S., she still did this for us… She probably didn’t even have time to practice 😢 It’s admirable how she wants to do everything for her fans no matter what.”
- “This song is perfect for her.”
…but online communities expressed different opinions. One theqoo post about Yujin’s cover also saw hundreds of comments, most unsure about the use of post-editing and/or auto-tuning.

- “Yujin has the vocal range and power to handle it just fine… It’s just disappointing that they added unnecessary tuning.”
- “Yujin is such a good vocalist… I think the issue is the unneeded vocal editing.”
- “With this much tuning, can you even say she sang it herself? It just sounds like a machine did it.”
- “I don’t really want to hear auto-tuned stuff. Even if there are a few cracks in the voice, I want to hear it raw…”
- “I get why people are talking about the tuning now. It really does sound pretty heavily edited.”
- “Even for a cover video, there’s a lot of robotic sound coming through.”
- “The tuning is disappointing.”
- “??… Honestly, if they tuned my voice like this, I’d probably sound like that too.”
- “Yeah, the tuning really is over the top. Even someone with untrained ears can tell it sounds mechanical.”
- “I listened to it with earphones, and the robotic sound is giving old-school “Heartbreaker”-era auto-tune levels… seriously.”
