The YouTube channel in question is Sojang, which was sued on multiple counts by the idol and her company. On June 4, the Seoul Central District Court, presided by Judge Choi Mi Young, ruled partially in favor of Starship Entertainment in its lawsuit against Sojang, ordering the creator to pay ₩50.0 million KRW (about $36,300 USD) to the agency in damages.

The court reasoned that Sojang’s YouTube videos recorded a high number of viewership and inevitably had a negative impact on the image and activities of Wonyoung. So, by extension, it also had an impact on Starship Entertainment’s business operations, and hence, the agency was entitled to damages. Starship Entertainment had claimed damages of ₩100 million KRW (about $72,500 USD), making this ruling only a partial victory for them.

This ruling adds to the already massive amount of compensation Sojang has already been ordered to pay to Wonyoung. In a separate lawsuit filed by the idol, the court had already ruled that they were to pay her ₩50.0 million KRW (about $36,300 USD) in damages for personal defamation. In addition, the YouTuber was also fined ₩10.0 million KRW (about $7,250 USD) in September last year for the defamation of Kang Daniel, and ordered to pay ₩30.0 million KRW (about $21,800 USD) in damages for a related lawsuit. They were also ordered to pay ₩76.0 million KRW (about $55,100 USD) to BTS members V and Jungkook for similar lawsuits.
