Hearts2Hearts are once again drawing attention online, but this time it’s not thanks to their visuals or for a new release. The girl group’s most recent stage cover has become a hot topic, fueling debate among fans and netizens alike.

The issue began after the group performed Girls’ Generation’s “Gee” at an event. While covering senior artists’ songs is a long-standing tradition in K-Pop, many felt SM Entertainment was overusing Gee for Hearts2Hearts.

SM has really lost touch. How many times are they going to make Hearts2Hearts perform Gee at events? They could at least rotate through different senior songs. SNSD doesn’t only have Gee.

Some argued the label should rotate songs and showcase the group with different classics instead of repeating the same one. The criticism quickly made its way onto Pann, where a post about the cover surpassed 50,000 views in less than a day.

Not all reactions were negative, though. Some netizens pointed out that the performance suited the members’ image, praising their energy and charm on stage. Others compared it to another cover the group recently performed of Red Velvet’s “Red Flavor,” and suggested a shift in tone with songs like “Peek-A-Boo.”

  • “Maybe they’re testing out what concept they’ll use for their next song? Yesterday, they covered Red Flavor.”
  • “Still, the cover suited them well. It was refreshing, and they all looked cute.”
  • “At least HATUHA isn’t stuck with a concept where they’re just yelling at fans like, ‘Don’t ignore my career!’ I like that.”
  • “I saw they recently covered Red Flavor too. Lots of idols, male and female, have done Red Flavor covers. It might’ve been nice if they went for a mood shift with something like Peek-A-Boo instead.”
  • “But honestly, regardless of generation or company, every girl group seems to cover SNSD at some point. The only ones who don’t are a few rappers.”

With Hearts2Hearts preparing to release their first mini album soon, fans are watching closely to see whether the criticism surrounding this cover performance will affect the group’s momentum.
