A viral tweet from one fan who (was supposed to have) attended the DAY6 fan concert has left fellow K-Pop fans completely baffled. In the tweet, @oing12044 claimed they were denied entry after the staff at the venue demanded to check their ID.

According to the fan, DAY6 concerts have never required an ID before. While confused, they showed their student ID, which was then deemed insufficient.

Re: DAY6 fan concert… I’ve been to four DAY6 concerts before, and not once did they check ID, so I just went assuming they wouldn’t this time either. But then suddenly, even though it was a fancon, they said they would be checking, so I panicked… I showed them my student ID, but they said that wasn’t acceptable. I asked my dad to send me a picture of my passport, but they said a photo wouldn’t work either.

As desperate times call for desperate measures, the fan ended up inquiring at a police station to pull an identification verification. The fan noted, after hearing about their situation, the police officer was super helpful.

So in the end, I went to the police station just in case and asked if they could help verify my identity… The officer was really kind and came with me. He felt bad since I came from out of town. He even asked if they could just verify my ID and let me in. He pleaded with them so much…

But the staff didn’t budge. According to @oing12044, a handful of other fans were facing the same issue. And despite the event being a fan concert, the said fans were eventually turned away.

But still, they absolutely refused.

There were a few other people like me too, and they were all students who had come with their parents. All the students were crying… Their parents spent hours trying to ask the staff. Some even flew in for this. I get that they have rules, but still… couldn’t they have shown a little flexibility?

Someone even asked if they could at least get the entry gift instead, but they said no to that too. Some of the staff nearby were like, ‘Can’t we just let them in?’ But two of the team leads there, older women, firmly said absolutely not.

The fan took it as a learning experience…

At all the previous concerts that were crawling with scalpers, they didn’t even check and let people in within a second. But now, at a fancon of all places, they suddenly enforce it like this? It was pretty shocking. I’m never making this kind of mistake again. I felt so bad for the police officers.

There was even one person who came with her mom — the ticket was bought under the mom’s account, and the mom brought her ID and their family register to prove the relationship. But because the daughter didn’t have a youth ID or passport, they still said she couldn’t enter… Like, seriously?

…but their fellow K-Pop fans were quick to slam the system for being uptight for no reason.

  • “What’s with the ridiculous overreaction, seriously?”
  • “Why are they handling things like this? How is this okay?”
  • “Isn’t the whole point of ID checks to stop scalping and reselling? If the police verified the fan’s identity, they should’ve let them in. Why are fans being treated like criminals?”
  • “Concert ID checks are apparently above the law now…”
  • “They’re handling this like sh*t.”
  • “It’s not even like this is actually stopping scalpers—so what’s the point of all this?”
  • “But how did the police verify the fan’s identity anyway? If they’re a minor, they can’t even run fingerprints, right? Did they just ask for something like a resident number and call it a day?”
  • “WTF—if the police confirmed the fan’s identity, why wasn’t that enough?”

DAY6 and/or related parties are yet to respond.
