Choi Woo Shik Responds to Racial Discrimination Allegations in Paris

Actor Choi Woo Shik has addressed allegations that he racially discriminated against a Black fan during a fashion event in Paris, France, saying he never intended to exclude anyone and apologizing to fans he could not meet because of time constraints.

On June 28, Choi posted a statement in English on social media after online criticism spread over a video from a Paris fashion show.

According to Koreaboo, the actor wrote, "Sorry if I missed you! I tried to sign as many autographs as I could, but time was just too short. I really hope we can meet again next time!"

His message came after a Black fan shared a video on June 26, claiming she was ignored while trying to get Choi's autograph at the event. She said she had brought a poster and a sign because she had admired the actor for a long time.

According to her account, Choi signed items for nearby fans but did not make eye contact with her before leaving.

The fan said, "I had the worst experience at the Paris Fashion Show. I'm not someone who casually says, 'This is racism.' What I don't understand is that he came all the way up to me, but only signed for other fans. I was the only Black person there," SportsChosun reported

The video quickly gained attention online, with many social media users identifying Choi as the actor involved. Some international fans criticized his actions and questioned whether the incident was an act of racial discrimination.

Others, however, defended the actor and pointed out that the venue appeared crowded, making it difficult for him to greet every fan. They suggested the situation may have been caused by limited time rather than intentional exclusion.

In his statement, Choi expressed regret over the misunderstanding and emphasized that he had been trying to sign as many autographs as possible before leaving the event.

His apology focused on the disappointment felt by fans he could not reach, while making clear that there was no intention to discriminate.

Choi Woo Shik attended the AMI 2027 Spring/Summer Collection Show in Paris on June 25.
