Recently, Sunggyu held a round interview at a café in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul to commemorate the release of his sixth mini-album, OFF THE MAP.

On that day, Sunggyu explained the reason why he has been able to maintain a long career in the K-pop market without any significant controversy since his debut in June 2010: “I don’t drive much and I don’t like cars.” He added, “In my daily life, I don’t have the ego that ‘I am a star’ or ‘I am a K-pop singer.’ I am a bit humble. Recently, while doing an INFINITE concert, I felt, ‘There are people who have waited for me like this, and it would be really wrong if I don’t repay that sentiment.’

Not long ago, I saw Tablo hyung from Epik High answer the question ‘What kind of singer do you want to be remembered as?’ with ‘I just hope to be remembered.’ I really related to that. Being remembered is something quite extraordinary. For someone like me to be remembered by anyone… If I have one wish, it’s that someday when people listen to my music, even just one song can stay as something that gives them a feeling or comfort, even if it’s just a few people.

Sunggyu also explained his ultimate goal as a singer, saying, “I want people to think of me as ‘a person who lives diligently’ when they think of me.

I don’t have a definite title, but the goal I have had since I was young was ‘to succeed enough to make a living doing what I love.’ Thankfully, I was lucky enough to achieve that when I joined the group INFINITE. My next goal is to become an artist who can still give the same emotions as in the past, someone who can maintain the feelings I had when I was at my peak, even after a long time has passed.

Sunggyu’s sixth mini-album, OFF THE MAP, was released on the afternoon of the 2nd at 6 p.m. through various online music sites.
