Cherry previously responded to question about her gender and pronouns, sharing she was okay being referred to as he/she/they and using both Cherry and Ryujin across her platforms. At this time, she stated she was just “cross-dressing.”

However, on July 19, the former idol went live on Instagram, where she shared that she was transgender.

Cherry: This isn’t a hobby, it’s my life.
Cherry: I’m transgender.

She shared that she was trying to reveal things slowly, saying that she wouldn’t be able to hide forever. Cherry also mentioned that due to her status as an idol, she wasn’t able to share everything as quickly from the start.

Cherry: Because I wasn’t an ordinary person, I couldn’t reveal everything from the start. My goal was to take it slow. I’m just going with my goal.
